Member Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame

Began his career in journalism at the age of 16 when as a high school correspondent he was sent to cover the Democratic National Convention by the Muncie Star, Muncie, Indiana.

Served as city editor in two West Virginia newspapers. From 1915 - 1919 he worked for the United Press as a correspondent with the American, British and French armies. One of the staff covering the Paris peace conference.

He was managing editor for Collier's Weekly, manager of Scripps-Howard's Washington bureau. From 1921 - 1927 he worked as editor of the Washington News.

Served as director of the National Emergency Council and the Office of Government Reports. He served as one of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's assistants for six years before returning to journalism and wrote a nationally syndicated column. He was a key figure in Washington, D.C. during WWII as a part of the president's administration.

He was known as a gifted writer and a brilliant editor and will always be remember in the profession.
