Lester E. Shinkle, age 69, of Lafayette and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette, IN. falling an extended illness. Lester was born on October 18, 1945, in Elwood to the late Harlan and Pearl (Hudson) Shinkle.
Lester honorably served and retired from the United States Army, where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster-2, and Vietnam Service Medal. Lester was a sharpshooter with the M14 rifle and a marksman with the M16. After retiring from the Army, he worked in the maintenance department of Royal Pin Leisure Center for 10 years. He enjoyed collecting trivia and taking photos.
Lester is survived by Brother, Robert Shinkle of Kingsland, GA, Nieces, Stephanie Morris, Tina McPearson, Laura Horalander, and Teresa Fisher all of Elwood, Nephews, Todd Smith, Mark Smith both of Elwood, and Audie McKnight of Noblesville.
Lester was preceded in death by his Father, Harlan Shinkle, Mother, Pearl (Hudson) Shinkle, Sisters, Ramona Capps, Jewel Smith, and Dorothy Blant.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Monday, April 13, 2015, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Pastor Joe Collier officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood Cemetery with US Army Honor Guard and the Elwood VFW American Honor conducting full military services.
