Ernie was born in Providence Rhode Island in July 30th, 1932. His parents were Emily and Ernest,Sr. He married Doris A. Spaziani on May 25th, 1952. Ernie and Doris had two children: Stephen J.(Brenda) and James D.(Sandra). Ernie and Doris have 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Ernie served in the US Army and saw action in Korea; he was awarded the Purple Heart. Doris and Ernie lived in Warwick, RI for 43 years before moving to Bradenton, Florida where they resided for 20 years. Ernie had one brother; Robert A. Layfield.
