Richard "Dick" Emmett Hartnett, passed away April 8, 2015. He was born in Sioux City, IA on January 16, 1931 to Thomas and Florence Hartnett. He graduated from Trinity High School in South Sioux, NE. He won the heavy weight golden glove championship in 4 states and was All-State in football. Offered more than 30 football and boxing scholarships including Notre Dame, he chose to play football for Southern Methodist University. He later spent 44 years in the motor freight industry, retiring from Yellow Freight. He was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Thomas Hartnett, sister, Monica, and brothers, Bob, Bart, Gene, Ned and Bill. He is survived by his wife Jessie of 45 years, son Richard Hartnett, son David Dwayne Hartnett and wife Barbara, daughter Dana Kylah Willis and husband Phillip, brothers James and wife Emily of Dallas, Jack and wife Sharon of Jackson, NE, and sisters Margaret "Peg" O'Neill and husband Vern of Dallas, Mary Jo Nelson of Houston, grandsons Chad Willis and Jake Hartnett, granddaughters Karah Boyd and Amy Hartnett, the extended family of stepdaughter Cindy Bandy, and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his loyal companion, Bear. He passed away at home surrounded by loving family and friends. He was a member of St. Pius X. Visitation will 6-8pm Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home with Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass Services will be 11am Monday, April 13, 2015, at St Pius X, 3030 Gus Thomasson Rd, Dallas, TX 75228. Entombment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow at Celebration Restaurant, 4503 W Lovers Ln, Dallas, TX 75209.
