WWI veteran
1930 census Cobleskill, N. Grand St.- David W Beard 39 doctor, Nellie S. 41, Barbara A. 13, Virginia A 10.
Suggested edit: Originally from The Oneonta Star, February 10, 1926 (quoted by Mark Simonson in "Backtracking: The Early Years", February 20, 2021):
“Deep snows and drifted highways held no terrors for Dr. David W. Beard of Cobleskill.
“He is the first physician so far reported to be operating a 'snow-mobile' in the discharge of his professional duties.
“The machine was put into commission and carried the doctor over snow banks where no vehicle had been since Thursday's storm. In places he drover over drifts six and eight feet deep.
“One of the first calls he had after the machine was delivered to him, was to attend the birth of a baby. The journey was made possible through the agency of his snow wagon.” Mother and daughter were likely happy to have heard the buzz of the motor, arriving at their home.
