MRS. GEORGE (TILLIAN JACOBS) STERRENBERG
JANUARY 13, 1944

Not far from where she was born 81 years ago, Mrs. Tillina Sterrenberg died Tuesday (Jan. 11) morning at 1:50 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Gerdes, in Charlotte.
The body will lie in state at the Gerdes home until 1:30 Friday afternoon when brief services will be conducted at the house by her pastor, Rev. A.F. Karsten, and at 2 o'clock he will conduct services in the Charlotte Lutheran church. Burial will be in the family lot in the Chatsworth cemetery.
She had been ill since last summer and June 3, was taken to a hospital where she remained for a time and then was removed to the Gerdes home, later to the hospital again and finally to the home where she passed away.
Tillina Jacobs was a daughter of Claus and Grace Jacobs, early Livingston county pioneers. She was born June 5, 1862, and grew to womanhood in the Charlotte locality and was married to George Sterrenberg, March 1, 1884. They resided near Danforth for about a year and then moved back to the Charlotte neighborhood where Mr. Sterrenberg died September 12, 1923. In the fall of 1925, Mrs. Sterrenberg and family moved to the village of Chatsworth were she resided until 1934, when she left the village to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Robert Ashman and continued to reside with them until she became ill.
She was the mother of seven daughters and six sons. One daughter, Mrs. May Harms, died in 1934, and a son, John, died last May, and two died in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Grace Offerman and Mrs. Kathryn Smith, of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Sena Hoppe, of Kingston, Illinois; Claus Sterrenberg, of Onarga; Peter, Cullom; George, Piper City; Mrs. Margaret Gerdes, Charlotte; Mrs. Irene Schroeder, Chatsworth, and Mrs. Christina Ashman, of Cullom. One sister, Mrs. Grace Ommen, and a brother, Henry Jacobs, reside near Dixon. There are 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who can cherish the memory of a woman who had the love and esteem of the entire community.
