Death Tuesday evening of 57-year old Carl Heingarten, Sr., of a brain disease in Holy Family Hospital. The deceased was born 19 September 1848 in Baden and as a boy came to America with his parents, arriving in our city where he has lived since 1857. During the Civil War he served as a volunteer with the 39th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. In 1870 he married Miss Louise Winter, his now sorrowing widow.
Also mourning his passing are 4 children – Carl Heingarten, Jr., of Chicago, Mrs. W. Willinger and Miss Rose and Walter Heingarten here, as well as a brother living in New Orleans, Louisiana, and 2 sisters. The deceased was a shoemaker by trade and for many years operated a shoe store on South Main Street.
He was a member of the G.A.R. and of the singing club “Concordia”. In his passing the city has lost a respected and beloved citizen and the family has lost a loving
husband and father. He was often elected by his fellow citizens to positions of trust and he filled those posts honorably. The funeral will be held Saturday morning from
St. Boniface Church.
