MRS. B. HERMAN, PIONEER, IS DEAD, AGED 71
Another of the city’s pioneer residents answered the summons of death today when Mrs. Benjamin Herman passed away at the family home at 1226 So. Fourteenth Street at an early hour. Death was due to pneumonia resulting from influenza and complicated by an ailment from which she had long suffered. Funeral services for Mrs. Herman will be held from St. Boniface church at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning with solemn Requiem Mass by the Revs. Piel and Kerstens, Mrs. Herman having been a lifelong worthy member of St. Boniface. Burial will be at Calvary.

Born at Baden-Baden Germany April 14, 1858, decedent was 71 when the summons came to her. She came to Manitowoc as a girl of 9 with her family and had resided here ever since. As Walburger Hugh, she was married to Mr. Herman February 2, 1876, and two years ago, the couple observed their golden anniversary.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Herman is survived by five of nine children born to the couple. They are Mrs. Gustave Youngwall, Chicago, Mrs. Max Wellhoefer, Jr., Edward, Edward and Oscar of this city and George of Kirkwood, Mo. Ten grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Herman, whose life was centered in her home and family, was a member of St. Anne’s Society and of St. Theresa’s Ladies’ Aid Society.
