Donald J. Holschbach, age 87, formerly of 1036 North 13th Street, and a current resident of Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Center.

Don was born on Aug. 5, 1923, in Manitowoc, son of the late Paul and Clara (Dirkman) Holschbach. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, Class of 1941. Don was a veteran of the United States Army1st Calvary Division serving from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. On Nov. 20, 1946, he married Dolores Kleiber at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alverno.

Don was a machinist at the Manitowoc Company. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi and the former Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Don was a member of the Harbor Commission for 31 years, the Golden "K" Kiwanis and volunteered at Peter's Pantry. Don and Dolores enjoyed their retirement years traveling and spending their winters in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife: Dolores, Manitowoc; his children and their spouses: Duane Holschbach, Montana; Dale and Connie Holschbach, Mishicot; Dennis and Dawna Lynn Holschbach, Montana; David Holschbach (deceased), Terri and Mark Desris, Milwaukee; Dean (deceased) and Jeri Lu Holschbach, Milwaukee; Jane and Tim O'Brien, Arizona; Jean Holschbach, Minnesota; Julie and Wayne Arndt, Arizona; Darryl and Betty Holschbach, Two Rivers; Doug Holschbach, Colorado; Tina and Steve Prueher, Milwaukee; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: Vernon and Dorothy Holschbach, Manitowoc; two sisters: Grace T. Brandl and her special friend, Frank Bremser, Manitowoc; Eunice Mella, Manitowoc; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bernard and Carol Kleiber, Dorothy Peterson, Andrew Holschbach, Helen and Fred Crocker, Ben and Patti Kleiber, Monica and Gene Ahrens, Rose and Ted Jarosh, Jerome Kleiber, Merle Kleiber and Harriet Kleiber. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters-in-law: Jerome Holschbach, Marvin and Patricia Holschbach, Harvey and Corrine Holschbach, Paul and Rose Holschbach; one sister and three brothers-in-law: Bernice and Donald Barta, Arnold Brandl and Leonard Mella; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Pat Peterson, John Kleiber, Richard and Gloria Kleiber, Anthony Kleiber, Rita Kleiber and Marion Holschbach.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. The visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 9 to 10:20 a.m. with a procession to St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Felton, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside Military rites will be accorded by the AMVETS Post #99.

Memorials may be made in Donald's name to Roncalli High School.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center and Riverwood Estates for their compassionate care and support given to Donald and his family.
