Benjamin Jones Porter was was the son of Dr. Benjamin Jones Porter and Elizabeth Lydden King. He was a man of much executive ability which was frequently called into requisition by his fellow townsmen. He held various town offices and was Postmaster of Camden from 1853 to 1861. Mr. Porter married Arathusa, daughter of Phineas Bowers and Elizabeth Dodge. They were the parents of seventeen children, three of whom died in infancy. Phineas, William, Mary (married 1st James Gutterson. 2nd Charles Noyes), Augusta (married T. Henry Denny, mother of Francis Augustus Denny), Arathusa, Maria(married James Brown), Cyrus, Albert, Harriet (married Isaac Thomas), Henry (married Adelia), Caroline, John (married Betsey Dutton), Ellen(married Frank Milliken), Ebon (married Maria Medina), Octavia (married Dr. Perly Sanborn).
