William J. Hoyer, age 78, of 1629 S. 10th St., Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 27, 2004, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

Bill was born May 23, 1926, in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph J. and Anita Klinkner Hoyer. He attended St. Andrew Parochial Grade School and was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1944. Bill then entered the United States Navy in June 1944 until 1946 serving on EST 991 in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Bill graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering and later attended University of Wisconsin-Madison. On June 23, 1956, he married the former Mary Rose Baumgartner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shawano. Bill was employed at Manitowoc Engineering, Hamilton Manufacturing and retired from Kohler Company in 1992.

Survivors include his wife: Mary Hoyer, Manitowoc; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Joseph Hoyer, Green Bay; James and Lorelei Hoyer, Rosemount, Minn.; John and Deborah Hoyer, Menomonee Falls; Jeffry and Sheryl Hoyer, Northbrook, Ill.; nine grandchildren: Lindsey, Jared, Braden, Alexander, Jacob, Rachel, Matthew, Megan and Amanda; a brother and sister-in-law: Paul and Joann Hoyer, Manitowoc; a sister and brother-in-law: Florence and Syd Herman, Manitowoc; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law: David and Pat Baumgartner, Green Bay. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. led by Sister Renee Delvaux.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at The Pfeffer Funeral and 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Camillus Janas O.F.M. with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Roncalli High School or the donor's choice.

Bill was an active member of St. Boniface Parish, including serving as president of the school board. He was a proud member of the Holy Innocents Men's Choir. Bill worked tirelessly at numerous part-time jobs to support his loving family, including a lengthy history as a bartender, most notably at the Elbow Room. He enjoyed camping with friends and fishing at his beloved Ballard Lake. He was an avid tennis player and golfer. Bill was extremely proud of his sons and daughters-in-law and their accomplishments. And he relished his time with his grandchildren. He will he deeply missed by his family and many friends.
