Donald V. Kuhl, age 92, of 2419 Wilson St., Two Rivers, died Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2002 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2002 at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Larry Seidl. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2002.
Donald was born on Aug. 31, 1909 in Manitowoc, son of the late August and Martha Dow Kuhl. He attended St. Boniface Elementary School and Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1927. Donald married the former Hazel Elliott on Aug. 13, 1931 in Waukegan, Ill. She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2002. Donald worked for the C. Reiss Coal Co. during the depression years and later bought his own trucks and hauled lime in the country, and north, for Reiss Coal Co. He then joined Reliance Construction Co., blacktopping highways. During this time he bought the first garbage disposal truck at Two Rivers and hauled for the city under City Manager John Hoffman. He later sold his trucking firm to Reliance Construction Co. of Sheboygan and worked for that firm until his retirement in 1976. Donald was also employed at the Manitowoc Shipyards. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Zephry Hills, Fla., and was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Two Rivers.
Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law: Beverly and Richard Thor, Jacqueline and Curtis Gilmer, Edith and Douglas Foye, all of Two Rivers, and JoLynn Mechenich, Slinger; two sons and three daughters-in-law: Ronald and Mary Ann Kuhl, South Milwaukee; Frank and Bonnie Kuhl and Judy Kuhl, all of Two Rivers; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter: two sisters-in-law; Margaret Hull, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Lyman (Grace) Eliott, Manitowoc. Donald is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Zephyr Hills, Fla.
Donald was preceded in death by one son: Donald Kuhl Jr.; one daughter: Marcia Kuhl; two brothers: Frank and Ruben Kuhl; four sisters: Irene Harkins, Dorothy Scherer, Fermetta Smith and Lydia Shea; one son-in-law, Donald Mechenich; and two brothers-in-law: Howard and Lyman Elliott.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 at the Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers. A prayer service, led by Sister Dorothy at 7:30 p.m., will conclude the visitation. The visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2002 at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers.
