James J. Krueger, age 89, formerly of 107 N. Rapids Road, Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013 at St. Mary’s at Felician ViIlage, Manitowoc.
He was born on July 10, 1924 in Reedsville, son of the late Walter and Mary (Krizenesky) Krueger. Jim was a graduate of Reedsville High School, Class of 1941. Jim entered basic training in May of 1944 at Camp Hood, TX. He was transferred to Company E. 242nd infantry. He then joined the 42nd Rainbow Division at Camp Gruber, OK. His overseas tour began November of 1944 and included France, Germany and Austria, Jim was awarded the bronze star for exhibiting courage under fire. He was discharged in 1946. On November 14, 1953 he married the former Rosella Leist at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Jim was a floor covering installer for Krueger & Shimon Floor Covering. He enjoyed woodworking, was an avid reader, puzzler and loved Studebakers. Jim was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, The Rainbow Division Veterans, Knights of Columbus Council 710, was an active volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Pantry, as well as the video tech for masses at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center. Jim was an extraordinary minister of communion at St. Francis of Assisi as well distributing communion to the homebound.
Survivors include his wife: Rosella Krueger, Manitowoc; his children: Joan Krueger, Manitowoc, John (Barbie) Krueger, Neenah, Christopher Krueger, Manitowoc, Alan Krueger, Manitowoc, Chuck (Dawn) Krueger, Manitowoc, Bill (Jill) Krueger, Menasha, Theresa (Bret) Carroll, Appleton; twelve grandchildren: Christine (Andrew) Raak, Jennifer Krueger, Christian, Jonathan & Will Carroll, Jacob Coenen, Danielle & Ryan Krueger, Rebecca Krueger; Ross, Tyler and Jenna Younger; one great-grandson: Gavin Raak; one sister and brother-in-law: Virginia & Skip Pankratz, Texas; further survived by numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: :Lois & Norbert Strzyzewski, Lucille Lallensack, Eugene & Rosemary Leist and Harry Rogala. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph & Florence Krueger, Henry & Harriet Krueger; a sister and brother-in-law: Rosemary & James Beecher; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Rosemary & James Beecher; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marion Kreie, Isabel & Charles Boomsliter, Coleta Rogala, Kenneth & Phyllis Leist and George Lallensack.
Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleuer. Entombment of the cremated remains will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc. Military Rites will follow the service accorded by V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659.
The family will greet relatives and friends for a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
