Bugler Alfred Raymond Hall served in the 318th Field Hospital, 305th Sanitary Train, of the 80th Division in France in WWI. (ref: History of the 318th Field Hospital)
In 1918 he boarded at 65 Austin Street yet showed 59 Austin Street in the 318th Field Hospital home residence in Lowell. Alfred boarded the ship Mercury in Newport News, Virginia, on May 25, 1918 heading for France. He was a private in many ways and later on bugler for the unit. He spoke French and served in one capacity as translator for the officers. He kept a diary, too many photographs, and sent souvenirs home throughout the war to Emelia LaChapelle, which now have remained in the care of their son Norman. He returned on the ship Rotterdam from Brest, France, on May 20, 1919, arriving in Hoboken, New Jersey on May 31, 1919 shortly before the unit was decommissioned.

Alfred Hall - Alfred R. Hall, 94, husband of Mrs. Emilia (Lachapelle) Hall, of 657 Merrimack St., died yesterday morning in a local nursing home.

Born in Winthrop, Me., he was a son of the late Joseph w. and Helene (Peyheur) Hall.

He was a communicant of St. Jean Baptiste Church.

Prior to his retirement more than 40 years ago, he was employed as a sign painter with the Lowell Police Department.

He was an Army veteran of World War I and was a member of the American Legion Post NO. 87 for over 60 years, the Lowell 40&8 Club and the Franco American War Veterans of St. Louis de France parish. He was also a member of the Lowell Senior Citizens of the Smith-Baker Center and the Mass Association of the Blind.

Surviving him besides his wife with whom he celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary July 30, are three sons, Donald E. Hall of Pelham, N.H.; Marc E. Hall of Nashua, N.H. and Norman L. Hall of Dracut; four grandchildren, Roxanne Hall, Brad Hall and Leslie Hall, all of Dracut and Ronald Hall of Portland, Maine; also several nieces and nephews.

He was buried on Aug 13, 1986.
