Mrs. Albert Einstein, the inspiration of her famous scientific husband, died at her home here Sunday, it was disclosed at a Princeton undertaking establishment today.
The reticence so typical in the Einstein home prevailed even in death and it was more than 24 hours before the death was made public.
Mrs. Einstein had been ill for several weeks at the Einstein home in Princeton.
Formal announcement of the death made at the Institute for Advanced Study here said: "After an illness lasting a year, Mrs. Albert Einstein, wife of Professor Einstein, died early Sunday morning. Mrs. Einstein was born at Ulm and has been a devoted wife and mother since her marriage with Professor Einstein a quarter of a century ago. It is the wish of Professor Einstein and his family that their privacy in their grief may be respected by their friends."
The United press was informed that the body was cremated and that private services were held at the Ewing Cemetery association, not far from Princeton.
Attendants at the cemetery declined to say whether the funeral was there.
Professor and Mrs. Einstein were double first cousins. Their childhood in Germany was spent together in the same household, but when they grew up their paths separated, and each married.
Mrs. Einsteins first husband died, however, and she wed Professor Einstein, her childhood sweetheart, who was divorced.
They reared her two daughters and his two sons together.

Mrs. Einstein died Sunday at her home of a heart ailment with which she had suffered for several months. Her passing was not made known for more than 24 hours due to Dr. Einstein's desire for privacy. She would have been 59 years of age January 18.
Taken ill last May, Mrs. Einstein is reported to have had an attack of pneumonia early in September. She had recovered, however, and her death was not expected. At her bedside were her husband and their daughter, Margot Marionoff. Another daughter, Mrs. Illse Kayser, died in 1934.
