Sarah Elminer Cook, the daughter of James Cook and Sarah Collis, married William Riley Chapman about 1855. Children from the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Cleveland Co., NC census records include: Mary Emeline, William Kelly, Margaret Roxanna, Fannie, John C., Ambrose, Thomas, Susan, and Naomi Chapman. John was 3 years old and Ambrose less than a year old in 1870. They must have died young since they are not listed in the census again. Neither are they listed in the "Cook History and Genealogy" by Rev. Earl A. Cook. Sarah Elminer was listed the last time in the 1870 census. Her youngest child, Naomi, was 4 years old in the 1880 census. Sarah's husband married again to Fannie Smith April 23, 1877 in Burke Co., NC. In 1900 William Riley and Fannie Chapman were living in Lincolnton, Lincoln Co., NC with six children: Essie, Junius S., Marion C., Jasper S., Amanda J., and Franklin A. Chapman. The place of Sarah Elminer's burial is unknown.
