Daddy was as gentle as a lamb, but if you messed with his family, the lion came out in him.

He was born at home in Glencoe, Etowah Co., AL. Eventually they moved to the "home place" in Alexandria.

He went off to Korea to fight in the Korean Conflict. All we know is that he was the radio man. He never spoke much of that time, except once he said the Chinese were mean and tricky (they were supporting the North Koreans).

He married the love of his life in 1954, Mavis Glenda Smith. IF they argued, we didn't know it as we never saw them argue.

He loved crossword puzzles. At that time the paper ran in the afternoon. He would get the paper, read it, then take out the crossword puzzle and fold the paper just so that the puzzle was showing and work them like clockwork. Rarely did he leave any blank.

He didn't meet a stranger. Everywhere he went he made a friend. He loved people and children. If he picked us up at band practice and someone was walking, he'd tell them to get on the back of the truck and he would take them home.

Before he married he cheated death. He made a vow with God that if he let him live he would forever serve him and that he did. He was the most God fearing man I knew. Every day he would read his Bible at 5 PM, even the times he was in the hospital. Can you imagine how many times he read the entire Bible from the age of about 28 to age 85??

Daddy, you are dearly missed. You stated you were ready to see your wife and your mother, and you are. There is probably a gospel singing every night.

With Love...
