Schmidt, Bernard "Bernie" D.

Bernard "Bernie" D. Schmidt, age 72, a Manitowoc resident, entered into glory surrounded by his loving family on Friday morning, April 17, 2015 at his residence.

Bernie was born on October 3, 1942 in Manitowoc, son of the late Arthur W. and Julia (Reynolds) Schmidt. He attended Manitowoc schools. On May 26, 1962 he married the love of his life, Marcia Elizabeth Pickard at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Francis Creek. Bernie worked for the family business, Schmidt Machine Company, for 32 years and also owned Bernie's Repair Shop for 15 years. He was an avid hunter and loved hunting with his son Rick. Bernie looked forward to weekends with his grandchildren frog hunting, riding the minibike, playing baseball, going on egg hunts, snowmobiling and taking nature walks. Bernie loved being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife: Marcia, Manitowoc; their children: Rick W. (Peggy) Schmidt, Valders, Cory (Gerry) Neuser, Two Rivers, Gina Schmidt (and her fiancé Jeff Koller), Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Michael (Cassie), Christopher, Brooklyn, Kyle (Alyssa), Joshua, Jared (Kara), Brittnye and Kayla; three step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren: Kylie, Kayra, Kaden, Noah, McKenna, Koleton, Blake, Tateyon, Trenton and Kaidence; one sister: Elaine Dezeeuw, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law: Bob Roedig, Manitowoc; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Donald and Vicky, Manitowoc, and Gary Schmidt, Manitowoc; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mick Pickard, Manitowoc, Dawn (Charlie) Sydow, AL, Ginger (Sye) Novak, Francis Creek, Bruce (Marta) Pickard, MN. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Art and Julia Schmidt; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Pat Roedig, Betty Pickard and Peter Dezeeuw; and three brothers-in-law: Michael, Johnny and William "Bud" Pickard.

Per Bernie's wishes a private family service will be held.
