Calvin A. Stein was born October 26, 1926 in Manitowoc son of the late James E. and Kathryn (Cooper) Stein Sr. Cal attended Manitowoc Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Army with the Corps of Engineers during WWII in the Pacific Theater and Japan. On July 15, 1950 he married the former Joyce E. Bailar. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2013. Cal and Joyce built their lake home in 1955 on Wolf Lake near Wausaukee and also owned 80 acres of hunting land. Many hours of fishing, hunting and swimming were enjoyed there. Cal was a partner in a local Architectural Firm for 15 years and for 22 years served as Director of the Building Inspection Department for the City of Manitowoc, retiring in 1989. He was a life member of the Manitowoc Elks Club and the VFW Otto-OAS Post #659 of Manitowoc.
Survivors include his 4 children: Suzanne (Gary) Chase, Waupun; Jeffrey (Deborah) Stein, Marshfield; Robert (Jayna) Stein, Green Bay; Barbara (Paul) Waldorf, Grand Junction, CO; 22 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 sister: Kay Keyes, Shawano, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: James & Kathryn Stein Sr.; his wife: Joyce Stein; and 1 brother: James Stein Jr.
