Elva Abner Smith, 74, died March 12, 2005 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky, daughter of Halie Saylor Abner and the late Clarence Abner. Mrs. Smith lived in Savannah since 1958 and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ageless Wonders. Later in life, Mrs. Smith became an avid runner having won her age class in the 1982 Savannah Marathon.
Her husband, Robert Smith, Jr. preceded her in death. Survivors: two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Pam Smith of Savannah; Robert Smith of Rincon; mother, Halie Saylor Abner of Savannah; brothers, M.L. Abner of Beechmont, KY; G.H. Abner of Clint, TN; Virgil Abner of Palm Bay, FL; two grandchildren, Samantha Smith of Dallas, TX; Quinton Smith of Rincon; her best friend since the seventh grade, Lois Alred Hayes of Chattanooga, TN and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2005 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
