GASTONIA - Charles Forest Allran Sr., 83, of Union Road, formerly of Jackson Road., died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. 

He was born on Dec. 7, 1931 in Gaston County to the late Charles Steele and Kathryn Bartlett Allran. 

Charles served in the United States Air Force. He received a Master's Degree in Education after attend-ing NC State and Western Carolina University. Mr. Allran retired from teaching after 30 years at Hunter Huss High School. In his younger days, he enjoyed spending time with his children at Wesley Acres Swim and Racket Club. He also enjoyed puzzles and classical music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peg Smith; and brothers-in-law, Bob Smith and Craig Beaty. 

Survivors include his children, Charles Forest Allran Jr. (Angela Moore) of Lexington, KY, John Wesley Allran (Shannon Joyner) of Pittsboro, Susan Allran Carpenter (Shane) of Gastonia, and James Reid Allran of Cramerton; former wife, Daphene Reid Allran; grandchildren, Zachary, Madison, Aiden, Emersen, Olivia, and Sydney Allran; brother, Mike Allran (Jean) of Florida; and sister, Winona Carol Beaty of Gastonia.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating. 

Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #100. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
