Beverly Jane Johnston, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 28, 1930 to Addie Belle Rochelle Hale.

She passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the waiting smile of her late husband Johnny on April 18, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her mother, and her husband of 63 years LTG (ret.) Johnny Johnston.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Sue Johnston; and their children; her daughter, Katherine Pittman and her children, Shawna and Chris White and their children, Corbin Boller and Claudia Gutierrez and their child, and Janelle and Martin Lucio and their children.

Beverly was orphaned at the age of 13 and left in the care of her great-aunt. She grew up in the Fort Worth area and left at 18 to attend Abilene Christian College. There she met the love of her life, Johnny Jones Johnston. They married in 1949 and initially settled in Galveston, Texas with her working as a secretary and Johnny working for the Santa Fe Railroad. Their lives changed dramatically when Johnny was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. Thus began their 36-year journey with the Army, moving 31 times in those 36 years including one tour in Japan and one in Europe. She also endured his serving two tours in Vietnam. She made lifelong friends wherever they happened to be stationed. It is said that to make general officer it requires a team. Beverly was the perfect companion and helpmate to her husband Johnny as he rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. They retired to San Antonio, Texas, in 1988 and began their life after the Army. They were embraced by the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ and attended regularly until her passing.

The viewing will be at Porter Loring North on the 23rd of April from 6:00-8:00 P.M. The burial service will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 9:00 A.M. on the 24th of April with the Memorial Service to follow at 10:30 A.M. at the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ with John Harp and Roy Osborne officiating. A light lunch will be served after the service in the Sunset Ridge fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, please make all donations to the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ, 95 Brees Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78209.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Sam Houston Medical Military Center, especially RN Pat Garcia and Dr. Ashley Shaw, for their above and beyond help; also the staff of New Haven Assisted Living, including Sally Nichols, Candy Taylor, and Sharron Kunz and their entire staff. We also thank the services of Team 560 Vitas Hospice Care for their love, care and support.
