John was the son of Elijah Durbin & Margaret Arnold. On September 28, 1824, he married Margaret Logsdon, daughter of John Logsdon & Patience Arnold, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cumberland, Maryland. They were the parents of eleven children: William, Mary Anna, Susanna, Raphael, Peter, Simeon, John C., Margaret, George L., Benedict Perfectus, & Pius Gregory.
