Claude (Butch) Marek, 60, of 2104 Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, September 11, 1986 at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic church, Manitowoc. Concelebrating the Mass will be Rev. William Zimmer and Rev. Leo J. Schmitt with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Marek was born February 14, 1926 at Two Rivers, Wisconsin, son of the late John and Rose Schmitt Marek. He grew up and was educated in Two Rivers graduating from Washington High School with the Class of 1944. Mr. Marek served with the United States navy during World War II. He worked for Sorge Dairy for 11 years and was then Secretary/Treasurer and Business Agent for the Teamsters Union Local 619 which then merged into Local 75. Mr. Marek retired in 1985, winding up more than 20 years as a full time union official. He married the former Marjorie E. Garrigan on October 25, 1952 at St. Boniface Catholic church, Manitowoc. Mr. Marek was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was currently president of the Manitowoc Police and Fire Commission and has served on numerous organizations during his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; five sons and a daughtger-in-law, Thomas and Ellen Marek of Connecticut, Christopher Marek of Connecticut, Michael Marek of Manitowoc, Patrick Marek of Milwaukee and Jim Marek of Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Gary Krcma of Grafton, Wisconsin and Marjorie and Gene Bruckner of Manitowoc; a brother, John Marek of Menasha Wisconsin; five sisters, Mrs. Victoria Bauknecht of Two Rivers, Mrs. Helen Hoffman of Two Rivers, Mrs. Rose Gagon of Two Rivers, Mrs. Laurine Jungles of Escanaba, Michigan and Mrs. Hortense Dufek of Minnesota and seven grandchildren, David, Aaron, Mathew, Angela, Becky, Nick and Lisa and many relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph.
Friends may call at Reinbold Pfeffer Urbanek and Schlei State Street Chapel, from 4 pm to 8 pm Sunday. A parish prayer service will be held at 7 pm led by Rev. William Zimmer. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Diabetes Foundation or the Heart Association.
