MANITOWOC—Word was received here Monday night by Mrs. Arnold Wollersheim, of 701 South 16th St., that her brother, Reuben Mauthe, 47, former Manitowoc resident, had been fatally
injured in an automobile accident near Aberdeen, Md., his present home.
The message came from Mauthe’s wife, Mary, whom he married while in service in World War II. Mr. and Mr. Mauthe have operated a restaurant in Aberdeen since leaving Manitowoc. Mrs.
Mauthe said she had not learned details of the accident. Funeral plans are incomplete, Mrs. Wollershelm said.
Mauthe was born in Manitowoc in 1906, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Meinrod Mauthe. He attended Manitowoc schools and was inducted into the service in World War II in 1942. He was assigned to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, at Aberdeen, Md., and served four years in the service advancing to the rank of sergeant technician. While in the service he married Miss Mary Bruce of Aberdeen.
Following his discharge from the army Mr. and Mrs. Mauthe came to Manitowoc where he was employed two years in the City Street Department. They then moved back to Aberdeen and in recent years operated a restaurant in the Maryland city.
He is survived by his wife and six sisters, Mrs. Bertha Notz and Mrs. Walter Tetzlaff of Sturgeon Bay, Mrs. Adolph Porath of Cicero, Ill., Mrs. August Koehler of Quincy, Ill., Mrs. Raymond Fischer and Mrs. Arnold Wollersheim of Manitowoc.
