GERTRUDE MEYER

Gertrude M. Meyer, age 80, of 1112 N. Union Road, Manitowoc, died Sunday evening, Jan. 13, 2002 at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Francis Kerscher with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

She was born May 28, 1921, in rural Manitowoc, daughter of the late Joseph and Alma Wendorf Shimek. Gertrude attended McAllister School and other Manitowoc Public Schools. On Oct. 23, 1943, she married Melvin Meyer at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Alverno. He preceded her in death May 9, 1984. Over the years, Gertrude was employed with various industries in the area finishing her career at the Manitowoc County Health Care Center. She also was a co-founder and operator of Mel Meyer Plumbing & Heating with her husband. Gertrude was a member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law: Jerry and Joleen Meyer, Kiel; Steven Meyer and his special friend, Heidi, Manitowoc, Mark and Laura Meyer, Manitowoc; three daughters and sons-in-law: Kristine and Thomas Mrotek, Appleton; S. Leslie and Jack Zantow, Holmen; Susan and Jerrold Paider, Manitowoc; 12 grandchildren: Wendy, Todd, Kelly, Chad, Jeff, Mason, Justin, Daniel, Andy, Nicole, Chris and Matthew; a great-granddaughter: Chloe Dercks; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Paul and Bertie Shimek, rural Manitowoc; Alvin Shimek, Milwaukee; Nancy Shimek, Two Rivers; Emma Meyer, Newton; a sister and brother-in-law: Patricia and Floyd Lonzo, Whitelaw, and her dog, Maxie. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lisa; four brothers; Steven, Joseph, Robert and Lloyd Shimek; a sister: Rhea Durand; a sister-in-law: Leona Shimek; and three brothers-in-law: Frederick and Wallie Meyer and Frank Durand.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday morning at Holy Innocents Catholic Church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m.
