Corliss G. "Sonny" Abbott, age 82, of Old Granliden Road, Sunapee, NH passed away surrounded by family on April 19, 2015 at Valley Regional Hospital, Claremont, following a brief illness.

Sonny was born in New London, NH on June 3, 1932, son of the late Corliss H. Abbott & Ariel L. (Hart) Abbott. He was raised and educated in Sunapee.

He served in the military as an MP from 1952 - 1954 and was stationed at Ft Riley, KS and Ft Leonard Wood, MO. during the Korean War.

For 25 years, he was married to Sylvette G. (Bowen) Abbott and together they had four children.

He was owner & operator of Abbott Trucking and worked as an independent contractor for the NH DOT for many years. His services and expertise were often used by the Town of Sunapee, a town he loved. He was also a former member of the Sunapee Fire Dept.

Sonny enjoyed working and never chose to retire. He operated Abbott Septic Service full time after he reached ‘retirement’ age making sure his many loyal customers were well taken care of. He enjoyed tinkering and restoring anything that was brought to him, most recently antique clocks. He enjoyed watching, which actually meant ‘listening’ to Nascar races. He was generous to a fault and would help anyone that needed it, never expecting anything in return.

Sonny’s greatest joy was being with family & friends. He enjoyed hosting family get togethers at his home, lovingly known as ‘The Main Lodge’, where you might often be treated to ‘Papa Sonny Corn’, or one of his famous hamburgers. The whole family would camp on the property and it was a fun time for all. This was his most precious and loved time.

He is survived by his children, Cynthia Glidden; Duane Abbott & his wife Malia; Darlene Morse & her husband John, all of Sunapee; and Carol Abbott & her wife Irene Hebert, of Spencer, MA.

He also leaves a sister, Mary Jo (Abbott) (Greenleaf) Lote of Waterford, VT; his grandchildren, Christie Glidden of Sunapee; Dustin Glidden & his wife Shannon, of Charlestown; Duane Abbott II & his wife Hope; Derek Abbott & his friend Brittany Hamel; Christopher Morse & his partner Sarah Sandler; Michelle Morse & her husband Steven Bourque, all of Sunapee. Sonny also leaves 9 great grandchildren and one on the way, several nieces & nephews, and many close friends he considered family.

He was predeceased by his companion of many years, Mary Guillow, his son in law, Larry Glidden and infant granddaughter, Tawna Glidden.

Burial will be in the Eastman Cemetery on North Road in Sunapee. Military honors will be observed by the Brewster-Gould-Lee-Rollins Post #25.
