He was a mechanic for Eckroth Brothers Farm Equipment, New Ringgold, for 34 years before retiring in the early 1980s.
Born in West Penn Township, he was a son of the late James A. and Jenny (Snyder) Schellhammer.
He was a member of Zion Stone Church, New Ringgold R.2.
