Verna Lucille Lonning was born on January 26, 1913, in Hillsdale, Wyoming, the daughter of Ben and Lizzie(Anderson)Lonning. She attended schools in Eagle Grove, Iowa, graduating with the Eagle Grove High School. Following her education, Verna worked as a telephone operator.
On January 26, 1938, Verna was united in marriage to Torlief "Ted" Wikre in Blue Earth, Minnesota. To this union four daughters were born: Lucille, Nancy, Mary, and Sharon.
Verna and Ted had lived in Eagle Grove, Thor, Fort Dodge, and Boxholm, Iowa. Following their marriage, Verna keep busy as a homemaker while raising the couples four daughters. In later years, she worked at Westeen's Café in Boxholm. Verna belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. On January 2, 1980, Ted passed away and following his death, Verna moved to Ames. She later moved to Colorado Springs where she remained for the last eighteen years.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, 13 siblings, and her husband, Ted Wikre.
Survivors include four daughters, Lucille Bloedel of Seattle, Washington, Nancy Moreau of Eastvale, California, Mary Videbeck of Mason City, Iowa, and Sharon(Dan)Haecker of Monument, Colorado; 16 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3 p Monday, Aril 27, 2015, at Carson-Stapp Funeral home in Ogden. Rev. Rod Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Boxholm. Visitation will be Monday, from 2:30 pm until the time of service at the funeral home Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm.
