Clarence J. Lax, 81, of 821 N. 6th Street, Manitowoc, died Monday evening, May 15, 1989 at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Zimmer and entombment will be in Calvary Chapel Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
Mr. Lax was born September 13, 1907, at Manitowoc, son of the late Henry and Annie Heinrichs Lax. He attended school at St. Joseph, Alverno and continued his education at the Manitowoc Business College. He was employed as a Bookkeeper for over 40 years for Spindler Company, Manitowoc. He married Gertrude M. Surfus on November 25, 1937 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Lax was past President of Wisconsin Retail Credit Association; honorary member of Travelers Protective Association; 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 710 where he had been the past Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and Financial Secretary.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Judy Lax of Houston, Texas and James Lax and Gerald Lax, both of Pewaukee; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Tony Anheuser of Hartland, Wisconsin; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Ann Bauer of Manitowoc, Mildred and Ray Kaufman of Manitowoc and Margaret and Evarist Bast of Manitowoc; a granddaughter, Jolie Lax; a grandson, Jason Lax; nieces; nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Bauer.
Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 4 pm to 8 pm Wednesday where a prayer service will be at 7 pm led by Rev. William Zimmer.
