The son of Elihu D Brown and Jane C Fernald, he was a carpenter by trade and for several years employed at the boat shop at the navy yard. He was a member of E.G.Parker Post, GAR and of Howe Lodge, No.162,I.O.O.F. of Newton Highlands. -from obit,Portsmouth Herald dated 5 May,1923

He served in the 27th Maine Infantry Regiment, enlisted on 30 Sept, 1862, and mustered out on 17 July, 1863.

He lived almost all of his life in Kittery at Oak Bank (near the rear Navy Yard entrance), except for a small stay in Malden, Mass where he met and married his wife Emily A Waite. - www.the27thMaine.com research
