Attorney John S. Fine Jr. of Dallas passed away Monday with his children by his side.

Born Oct. 7, 1940, in Wilkes-Barre, John was the son of the late former Pennsylvania governor, the Honorable John S. Fine and Helene Pannebecker Morgan Fine. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy, Wayne, and Wyoming Seminary, Kingston. After attending Dickenson College and Wilkes College, he graduated from his father's alma mater, The Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, where he was a member of the fraternity Beta Theta Pi. After graduation, he became a partner in the law firm Aston, Fine McHugh, Caverly, Wetzel & Geist, where he practiced for many years.

Active in both the legal and political communities, Jack was also a member of the George M. Dallas 53 Lodge of Freemasons, The Caldwell Consistory, Irem Temple and the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 154. Jack was an avid golfer, a founding member of the Riverview Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed many days with his grandchildren, close friends and in his garden. He was a member of Shavertown United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Franklin Fine; his wife, Mariellen Daw Fine; and brother-in-law, William J. Daw.

He is survived by his son, John S. Fine III and wife, Kim; and their two sons, Kyle and Nicholas; daughter, Helene Fine Rubin and husband, Scott, and their children, Alysa, Jacob and Emily. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Joyce Daw; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephew; and close friend, Ann Marie Gavigan.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Shavertown United Methodist Church, 163 N. Pioneer Ave., Shavertown. All friends are welcome to attend. A private interment will be held in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hugh B. Hughes and Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.
