World War Veteran Dies Last Night at Maple Crest
The Guy Drews post, American Legion, will conduct formal military rites Wednesday
morning at Calvary cemetery at the funeral of William A. Scheurell, 45, who died at
Maple Crest sanatorium last night after a long illness. Funeral services will be
conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Andrews Catholic church, the Rev.
Henry Letz officiating. Six Legionnaires will be pallbearers and a firing squad will
escort the funeral cortege to the cemetery and will give the last salute. The late
Mr. Scheurell is a World war veteran. He served in England with the fifth aero
construction company.
The body will lie in state at the Pfeffer funeral chapel until Tuesday afternoon
when it will be removed to the home at 1621 South 10th street. It will remain
there until the time of the funeral.
William Scheurell was born March 31, 1890, in Sheboygan, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Scheurell Sr. who survive him. He came to Manitowoc with the
Scheurell family in 1892.
In October, 1920, he was married to Ervine Simono of Two Rivers. The widow,
six children, Betty, Mildred, Edith, Ralph, Roger, and William, two brothers,
John Jr. and Francis, and two sisters, Mrs. Walter Horstketter and Mrs. Frank
Simono of Two Rivers, also survive.
Mr. Scheurell was engaged as a mason contractor, associated with his father
and his brother, John. He was an officer in the bricklayers' union.
