Funeral services for Alvin Wheeler Murdock, 81, of Millersburg, were held January 27, 1951, at the Presbyterian church of Millersburg with Rev B J Holland officiating. Interment was in the cemetery there by the Sherrand Funeral services. The service of song was by Mrs. Willet Downey and Mrs. Clifford Fowler. Pallbearers were Kenneth Marple, Charles Dyer, Eugene, Earl, Ralph, and William McKay. Mr. Murdock, a retired farmer, died at Mercer County Hospital, Wednesday evening, January 24, 1951, where he had been a patient for several days. Mr. Murdock was born March 7, 1869, and at the time of his death was 81 years, 10 months, and 17 days. He was born in Green Castle, Iowa, and move to New Boston in 1880, with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. M. D. Murdock. He was baptized in the Baptist church in this youth. He was united in marriage to Susie Florence Wagoner, of Mercer County, October 28, 1887. They resided most of their married life in Mercer County, although they also lived in Milton, Iowa; Fawnee, Okla., and Millston, Wis. He had resided in Millersburg since 1928. Mrs. Murdock died in February 1949. He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. William McKay, of What Cheer, Iowa; Mrs. C.D. Younker of Milton, Iowa; Mrs. Charles Dyer of Buffalo, Iowa; Mrs. John Marple, New London, Iowa, and Mrs. Thomas Long of Fairland, Oklahoma. Also there are two sisters, Mrs. Clark Ramsey of Hamilton and Mrs. Julia Book of LaSalle, and one brother, Riley of Albia, Iowa. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, besides several nieces and nephews.
