One of the oldest surviving Confederate Soldiers

William Allen LUNDY was probably born William Allen LUNDAY. When his children started to school, he told the story that the teacher insisted the correct spelling was LUNDY. In any event, his children, and in later legal documents he, spelled the name LUNDY.

He filed a Soldier's Pension Claim in 1931 in which he states that he enlisted at Elba in the Home Guard service for Alabama. This was Application No. 23779 and no approval is indicated. He filed a Soldier's Pension Claim with the State of Florida in 1933 and by Special Act of the Legislature in 1941 was awarded a pension by the State of Florida for service in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. His claim states that he enlisted at Elba, Alabama on the last days of March 1864 in Company D, 4th Calvary of the State of Alabama in the service of the Confederate States of America, and was discharged in May 1865 at the close of the War.
