Emma's husband Fred died in 1887. Emma married George H Bush, who passed away in 1906. They had no children. Her daughter Emma married my grandfather : Harry Jasper Purple, Sr.
In our family she was know as grandma Bush. My mother remembers talking to her and knowing that Emma had a very hard life.
To this memorial I added the "4 generations portrait" as it is known in my family, which shows Emma Louise Lamkin and Harry Jasper Purple Sr's first child, my uncle : George Freeman Purple, along with his mother, his grandmother, and his great grandmother.
In addition, my father had the sense to write on the back of the photo the persons names. As any genealogist knows, it is only through the thoughtfulness of others that we receive information like this. Thanks Dad !
While living with her daughter in Newton Mass, Emma passed away while in Newton Hospital.
July 2015 - In April 2015 Don Short (47261662) added memorials and a photo of the grave stones of Emma and her second husband George H Bush for which I am ever greatful.
If you are thinking about helping out with Find A Grave, remember stories such as mine : for over 10 years, without the ability to travel to Ithaca NY to look at records and such, I could never find where Emma was buried. Her death certificate indicates which funeral home took care of her remains but no record of where she was buried.
Don Short added her memorial and now the final resting place of my great grandmother is another mystery solved. Thank goodness for websites like this.
July 2015 - Below you will find linked (to her parents) two of Emma's siblings, a third (Jennie Blanche Luce) is someone I can't find a burial for, yet. I have a copy of her death certificate. See her parents memorial for more information.
