Eugene (Gene) G. Rieth, 81 of Idaho Falls passed away peacefully Sunday evening, April 26, 2015 at home, surrounded by family.
Gene was born January 2, 1934 (1234!) in Woodward Oklahoma, the son of John and Martha Brenner Rieth. Gene spent his youth in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Idaho.

Gene served in the US Navy from 1951 – 1954 aboard LST 1134 as a pipefitter. After the military he returned to Kansas, working for Vulcan Materials in Wichita Kansas as a Mechanic. On January 19, 1957 he married his loving wife of 58-years Doris Merle Miller. Gene also worked for Tri State Motor Transit in Kansas and Idaho. In 1976 Gene went to work for EG&G as a bus driver and retired in 1989.

Gene loved fishing, hunting, golfing, woodworking, especially Intarsia, and motorcycles. Gene rekindled his love of motorcycles in later years, receiving his Idaho Motorcycle license at age 78. Gene bought his Harley and spent his last summer riding with friends. Gene was known for his sense of humor and numerous sayings, such as, "Nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs."

Gene is survived by his wife Doris Rieth of Idaho Falls; a daughter, Laurie (Dave) Bockhaus of San Leandro CA, one brother Edward (Rosie) of Hattieville AR, one sister, Donna (Marvin) McCall of Hattieville AR, a granddaughter, Larissa Bockhaus of San Leandro CA, and a grandson, Mitchell Bigelow, US Army – Korea.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arthur, Donald, and Vernon Rieth, a sister Adele Harvey, and a son, Ronald Rieth.

The family would like to thank Julie, Emily, and Chastine of Aspen Hospice, Angie of Aspen Home Health, Patsy of Quali Care, Dr. Stoddard, and all of the wonderful caregivers who provided comfort, support, and friendship to Gene.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 145 Ninth Street in Idaho Falls, followed by burial at the New Sweden Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
