Ilion, Aug 2 - Thomas Carney died at 6:30 this morning. Yesterday he was in good health, but became ill with the heat at night. He was born in Ilion 36 years ago and has spent all of his life here except for three years from 1901-1903 when he made a trip around the world. He was employed as customs inspector in Manilla, P. I. and held other positions in China, Japan, Hawaiian Islands, South America, Panama Canal Zone and Italy. At one time he ramped across the Yucatan Penninsula on foot traveling through perilous swamps and jungles alone. He was a scholar of political economy and had written many papers on the subject.

Mr. Carney is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Michael Carney, two brothers, George Carney of Ilion and John F. Carney of Buffalo, and three sisters, Mrs. J. Frank Sweet of Ilion, Miss Gertrude Carney of this village amd Mrs. James Maloney of Glendora, California.

The funeral will be Saturday morning at 9 am from the home and at 9:30 from the Church of the Annunciation.
