They farmed in Rosebud Township, living on a farm just east of the Brox homestead farm, now owned by Patrick Hurley. They were the parents of six children: Irving, Lawrence, Guy, Ernest, Ardith and Fred Jr.
Fred and Emma moved to Iowa for a time, and then to St. Paul, Minnesota, where they heard there was work available. Fred was employed by the Northern States Power Plant from 1923 until retirement. He died April 15, 1947. Emma is also deceased. They are buried in Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul.
