Mr. James Leggett Boyd, 82, died Saturday evening, April 23, 2005, at his home. He was born March 31, 1923, in Morehead City to Lonnie Mae and Era Ethel Leggett Boyd. Mr. Boyd retired from Anchor Motor Freight and was a member of First Baptist Church of Welcome. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Alma Gray Lupton Boyd; two daughters, Faye Bardwell and husband Ed of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Teresa "Terri" Contreras of Lexington; two sons, James Gray Boyd of Sophia and Charles Edward Boyd of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Charles Edward Boyd Jr., Kimberly Dawn Humbarger, Lisa Michelle Cochran and Derek Shane Sawyer; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at First Baptist Church of Welcome by the Rev. Mark Blair. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, April 25, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 524 S. State St., Lexington, NC 27292.
