Christine M. Dafoe, 73, formerly of 3109 Canal St., Port Leyden, and also formerly of Harrisville, died peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 in the Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since August, 2014.

Born May 16, 1941 in Harrisville, NY, the thirteenth child of John and Amy Ralph Bango, she grew up in Harrisville and attended Harrisville Central School.

She married Charles E. Dafoe on May 17, 1958 in Harrisville.

For much of her life beginning in 1964, Chris worked as a seamstress for Lally Manufacturing in Harrisville, Herrings, Carthage and Port Leyden, and for Kristen International in Turin. She last worked for Otis Technologies in Lyons Falls from where she retired in 2004. She and her husband lived in Harrisville until 1974 when her husband’s employment caused them to move to Port Leyden, although she always considered Harrisville her home.

In her younger years, a family get-together meant Chris and her sisters would be tearing up the dance floor. In her later years, she enjoyed many pastimes including Bingo, board games, cards, attending school events, bus trips, puzzles, reading, and most of all, and especially spending time with her family. If she wasn’t planning a family dinner or picnic, she was in Harrisville visiting. Additionally, she was an active participant in Relay for Life events and enjoyed being a Girl Scout volunteer.

Surviving in addition to her loving husband “Chuck” of 56 years, are her four children, Lolly M. Highers and her companion Gig Jones, of Lowville, Charles E. and wife Julie Dafoe, Jr., Tina J. Sullivan, and Paul D. Dafoe, all of Port Leyden; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph (Tina) Bango, of Lyons Falls, Frank (Joyce) Bango, and Billy (Joanne) Bango, all of Harrisville; four sisters, Emma (Bud) Miller, Pauline Luther, and Rose Arnold, all of Harrisville, and Nancy Murray, of Constantia, NY, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Philip Bango, and two sisters, Angeline Carr and Victoria Luther.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from Scanlon Funeral Home, 14187 State St., Harrisville, with the Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Harrisville Community Cemetery.

Per her wishes, there will be no calling hours.
Contributions in memory of Chris may be made to the Activities Department of the Lewis Co. Residential HCF, 7785 N. State St., Lowville, NY 13367.

The entire Dafoe family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt “Thank You” to the wonderful staff on the First Floor and Activities Department of LCRHCF for the superb care Chris received during her brief stay.
