Marion Walter Weshinskey, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away April 28. 2015. He was born December 14, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas, to Cecil L. and Lurline Hoermann Weshinskey, and he attended schools in San Antonio, Texas and La Grange, Texas.

Walter served nine years in the U. S. Coast Guard in Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey, and North Carolina. He served most of 1968 in Vietnam on the U.S. Mendota attached to the U. S. Navy 7th Fleet, where he received a Combat Action Ribbon with one silver star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with two bronze stars. He was also on the U. S. Escanaba, during harbor patrol at the U. S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1963.

When he left the Coast Guard, Walter joined his parents in Victoria, Texas, and attended Victoria College while he worked at Sears. He later became a police officer with the Victoria Police Department, retiring in 1997 after 23 years. While with the police department, he worked as a patrol officer, a detective, a motorcycle officer in Traffic Safety, a crime prevention officer with his office being in the Victoria Boys’ Club, and as a Victoria Housing Authority officer. He then went to work directly for the housing authority until he again retired in 2005.

Walter was a life member of the Veterans’ of Foreign Wars, Post 4146, and the Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann Strong Weshinskey, a daughter, Judith Weshinskey-Price, her husband, Eric M. Price, and their daughter, Ansleigh Price, all of Amarillo, Texas; a step-son, Mark A. Beam, and his wife, Beverly Beam, both of Southaven, Mississippi; other family members and many friends; along with his loving pets, Sugar and Bear.

Burial will be at Mission Burial Park, 1700 S.E. Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, May 1, at 2: 00 p.m.,
