Pieter Alrichs came to America in 1657, with dispatches from the Holland commissioners to his uncle, Jacob Alricks, who was Director of the Amsterdam colony on the Delaware River. Peter engaged in trade on the Delaware River and Bay becoming a successful trader with Indians and other trading enterprises. In 1660, after the death of his uncle he was named his successor as Director. He served his community in a variety of offices as well.

Peter married Maria Wessels on 9 February 1664 at the Dutch Reformed Church of New York.

Children of Peter and Maria were:
Peter Sifridus, Harmanus, Jacobus, Wessel

Pieter Alricks died at New Castle, Delaware in 1697.
His will was made at New Castle on 25 January 1694/5 in which he divided his extensive properties leaving to each of his 4 sons a fine estate.
