MILLARD FILLMORE TROTTER - Late M. F. Trotter Resident of County More Then 70 Years
Father, George Trotter, Was Veteran of BLack Hawk War
Millard Fillmore Trotter, a resident of Stephenson County for over seventy years, passed away yesterday at his home, 31 Walnut street, after a lingering illness. The immediate cause of his death was apoplexy. Mr. Trotter was born May 25, 1850, on a farm 2 1/2 miles southwest of Orangeville, which place was his home until March 1st of the present year, when he disposed of his farm, because of ill health, and retired, moving to Freeport with his family. The deceased was a son of the late George and Sarah Trotter, pioneer residents of this county, the family coming here in 1836 from Kentucky. A son , born in the following year, 1837, has the distinction of being the first white child to be born in Stephenson county, The father of Mr. Trotter was a veteran of the Black Hawk war. Millard Fillmore Trotter was married on January 4, 1876 to Miss Emma Baltzer, who with the two children, Guy Trotter, of Lena and Miss Grace Trotter, at home are left to mourn his loss. He is survived by the following brothers ad sisters: Thomas, of Oklahoma; John, of Montaire, Nebr.; Mrs. Scott, of Zion City, Ill.; Mrs. Elizabeth Van Matre, of Orangeville and Wm. Trotter of this city. He was a man highly respected and admired in the community in which he resided - living a quiet, simple life, devoted entirely to his home, where his loss will be most keenly felt. In politics he was a staunch republican and served as justice of the peace in Buckeye township for over a period of twenty years. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the late home,Walnut street. Rev. A. J. Michael, of the English Reformed church, will officiate and burial will be at Oakland. The following will act as pallbearers: Clarence Springman, Harold Baltzer, Arthur Hillis, Will Martin, Harry Hoyman and Ward Yount.
