Fred W. Adams, 76, of Preble, NY, passed away on February 18, 2015 surrounded by his family in the Cortland Regional Medical Center.

Fred was born April 1, 1938 in Martinsville, VA. He attended school through the 8th grade in Virginia at which time he moved to New York State to reside with his aunt and uncle. He finished his education later in life, graduating from Homer Central School in 1990.

He married the former Phyllis Chase on September 20, 1958 and together they bought a home in Preble where they have resided for 46 years.

Fred was employed at Smith Corona in Groton and South Cortland for 38 years. He retired from Borg-Warner in Ithaca in 2002.

He enjoyed bowling, hunting, playing pitch, and NASCAR.

Surviving is Fred’s wife of 56 years, Phyllis Chase Adams; four children, Nancy A. Richards of Homer; Bradley F. Adams of Homer; Douglas M. Adams of Marathon and Lorraine P. (John) Place of Cortland; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a sister, Treva A. Clardy of Martinsville, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, James A. Adams.

Fred’s family will receive relatives and friends in the Russell Fellowship Room at the Homer Congregational Church, 28 South Main St., Homer, on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 3 – 5 p.m.

Arrangements are by the Donald L Barber Funeral Home with a spring interment in the Preble Elmwood Cemetery.
