Phyllis Milner

Phyllis Ann Milner of Eureka, died on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at Via Christi – Saint Francis Medical Center in Wichita, at the age of 74.

She was born on August 16, 1940, in Greenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of Donald and Ethel (Dees) Bratton. She was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1958. On June 23, 1958, she was united in marriage to Jerry Wayne Milner, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They lived in Arkansas City over the summer and then moved to Topeka while Jerry was in college. Phyllis worked for the Security Benefit Life Insurance Company while in Topeka.

After Jerry graduated, they moved to Harveyville west of Topeka where he was a teacher. In 1968, the family moved to Eureka. Phyllis went to work at Sherar Williams as a clerk and tailor, working for Bob Williams for ten years after which time she purchased the business from him. She has been running the business since that time.

Phyllis was a member of the Christian & Congregational Church of Eureka, and the Eureka Business Women.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of the home; three sons, Samuel Wayne Milner of Andover; Daniel Ray Milner of Webb City, Missouri; and Douglas Keith Milner of Lawrence; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret “Mickey” McCartney of Eureka; and Linda Kay Pitkin of Midland, Texas; and twin brother, Phillip Bratton of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers, Donald Bratton, Jr.; Edward Bratton; Ronald Bratton; David Bratton; and Gene Bratton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 8, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka with Reverend Kenneth Baker officiating. A private family interment will follow at Virgil Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Public Library. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
