J. Robert Caldwell, 90 years old, retired director of Bureau of Dental Society Services at the American Dental Association, native of Palmerton, Pa.; attended Yale University; graduate of Penn State, Class of 1948; veteran U.S. Navy officer; passed away peacefully Apr. 4, 2015.

Beloved life partner of the late Clissold "Budd" Hill; uncle of Christopher Caldwell, brother-in-law of Mildred Caldwell, both of Pa.

Patron of the arts for nearly 80 years, Bob will be dearly missed by family and friends, and remembered for his kindness, brilliant mind, exuberant personality, fantastic adventures, and tireless zest for life. Bob had an encyclopedic memory for Broadway musicals, stayed in step with local and national affairs and culture, and rarely forgot a birthday. Though legally blind for many years, he never gave up his passion for reading, which he satisfied through listening to countless hundreds of books on tape. Bob's door was always open, and he reveled in the company of his friends.

Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, or The American Players Theatre, P.O. Box 819, 5950 Golf Course Rd., Spring Green, WI 53588. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Illinois.
