He was born Nov. 6, 1916, to William V. and Nora Callantine at what is now known as the Brownell Ranch near Dry Creek. He attended grade school at Dry Creek and graduated from Manhattan High School. At age 16, he moved to the Pass Creek Ranch, where he ranched his entire life.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott; an infant daughter, Nora; and two brothers, James and Victor Callantine.
