Max L. Alexander, 86, of Cherryvale, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the Cherryvale Care Center.

Max Leonard Alexander was born May 1, 1919 at Sycamore, Kansas, the son of Bernard C. Alexander and Edwina (Mayo) Alexander. He attended Independence High School.

Mr. Alexander served with the United States Army from April 9, 1941 until his discharge on November 5, 1945.

Mr. Alexander was a master carpenter and worked for Coonrod & Waltz in Wichita for two years and was employed with Norman Cooley Construction for 28 years in Independence.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Independence, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dewlin-Dix Post 1186 of Independence and was a member of the Carpenter's Union for 40 years.

On June 15, 1942 in Independence, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Harclerode. Mrs. Alexander preceded him in death on November 26, 1994.

On December 21, 1996, he was united in marriage to Juanita Funk and she survives at the home.

Additional survivors include: three sons, Ronald Alexander, David and his wife Ginger and Richard Alexander, all of Independence; a daughter, Mary Ann Svehla and her husband Rudolph of Bozeman, Montana; three grandchildren, Darren, Casey, & Jay Alexander and four great grandchildren, Dawsyn, Owen, Isaac and Eli Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norman Alexander.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Webb Rodrick Chapel with the Reverend Ron Oldenettel, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church of Independence, officiating. Inurment will be at the Lutheran Cemetery.
