Clarence Arthur Mickelson, 94, long-time resident of Sun City and Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, passed away peacefully Friday, April 30, 2004, after complications following surgery.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 Del Webb Boulevard, Sun City, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, the families suggest donations be made to the Arizona Alzheimer's Association.

Clarence was born on May 3, 1909 in Selby, S.D. He was the youngest of nine children born to George M. and Emma Mickelson. He graduated with a degree in business from the University of South Dakota.

After marrying his college sweetheart, Gladys Robison of Sioux City, he began his career as a haberdasher in Sioux City. He opened stores in Sioux City and Davenport under the name of Mickelson's Men's Shop. Following a successful business career, he retired in his mid-50s and moved to Sun City with Gladys.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Sioux City Country Club, Palmbrook Country Club and Moon Valley Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Sandra Josephsen of Okanogan, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Noel Mickelson and Barre Mickelson; and his wife of 56 years, Gladys.
